Nobuyoshi Araki

Araki was born in Tokyo, studied photography during his college years and then went to work at the advertising agency Dentsu.Nobuyoshi Araki is a contemporary Japanese photographer known both for his prolific output and his erotic imagery. While his photographs often focuses on quotidian activities and traditional practices in his native country, it is Araki’s sexual imagery that has elicited particular controversy and fascination.

             NOBUYOSHI ARAKI
             KINBAKU, 1995-2008/2014

The main subject is this japanese girl dressed in her traditional kimono, the image has cool tones because of the shades of blue and purple and the contrasting colours also seen in the image is red and blue. This image has a cold impression because the way the japaneese girl is tied by the ropes around her arms and her facial expression.Goes together with the cool tone in the image. This was taken with a narrow depth of field because the background is out of focus and a straight forward vantage point.

NOBUYOSHI ARAKI Flower, Yamorinski and Bondaged Woman, 2006/2014

The main subject is the japanese girl also dressed in her traditional attire also tied up.The image has warm colour tones with the contrasting colours red on her dress, lips a blue stripe on her dress and her shoe with the flowers behind her and green shown here on the grass and leaves. You can also see complimentary colours here with a little purple on her collar.Taken from a mid way vantage point i think Araki would have been just slightly bending to capture this image. With the negative space around her you can see where he named the image 'FLOWER' you can also see a lizard on the stone which is kind of unusual for me why he placed it there. This would have been taken from a narrow depth of field because the background is slightly unfocused.
