WK 6 FLASH RESEARCH

Artist 1
Edith Amituanai's

Edith Amituanai's parents came to New Zealand from Samoa in the 1960s and settled in Christchurch, where a number of their relations still live. Extended family and immediate community are primary subjects for Edith, who collaborates closely with Christchurch and Auckland relations, as well as the individuals she grew up with in West Auckland. In particular, she focuses on a group of families who once lived in the inner city of Auckland and attended the Pacific Island Church in Edinburgh Street, Newton, Auckland.
Edith's is most drawn to portraiture, which typically falls outside of documentary photography.  She also photographs interiors with no people present and then uses this interior as the setting for a portrait.  Her photographs for the exhibition Mrs Amituanai worked across this portrait/interior divide by presenting both the rooms and people in the rooms.

BOY SHAME, 2003
from the series Scenarios of Shame
C-type photograph, 30 x 35 cm

Edith would have used a flash in this image because you can see it on the tv screen and the room is lit up with the  shadows showing behind the boys head and shadows on the fathers leg, and dads face and furnitures.Theres patterns on the rug, curtain, clothing and couch.Textures from the wooden table. This would have been taken from a wide depth of field because everything is in clear view.Taken from a straight forward vantage point.Theres a mixture of warm colours on the couch with the yellow-orange and complimentary colours with the purple and yellow on the rug on the curtain, the fathers shirt and mums top.

Edith Amituanai - Zita Maria, 2011

This has warm colours from the sunlight, green grass, yellow houses and yellow and black arrows. This would be direct lightning because of the sunlight theres alot of shadows from the trees and surroundings. The fence is leading lines and patterns directing our eyes to the student with blue bag. This would be taken from a narrow depth of field.

This would be shot with a flash from the left because shes got red eyes and her face is really lit and the white is really distinguished, theres a shadow on the right side of her neck. This has warm colours because of her pink, red lips and yellow hair.Taken from a high vantage point. The subject is centred using the rule of thirds.

This is an interesting image because it looks like the tree trunk has been painted white and i think Juergen has also used a flash from the left side to capture this because her head and left arm has got shadows while the rest of her body is really bright.Taken from a low vantage point. No Half moon would have been used in this image.I like the patterns on her outfit has warm colours the orange colour and the texture of the tree.
