Get closer/further away
Ask subject to shift
Relocate movable objects
Focus and DOF decisions
Using the evaluative metering mode
f/4.5, shutter 1/60sec, ISO 200, 55mm focal length
Using the evaluative metering to take a photo of Carolyine.Press the Metering Mode button on the camera – symbolised by an eye-shaped icon in a rectangle.Using the Main Dial (or the right and left cursor keys at the back of the camera) to cycle through the options and switch from one metering mode to the next. The camera uses this to measure the light. The evaluative metering covers the entire frame as seen here
f/5 shutter 1/60sec, ISO 200, 55mm focal length
This was taken using the spot metering. The spot meter is used when the photographer wants to get exactly what he or she is looking for.For example above the background is too bright and using spot metering i only want to capture Carolyines face.

f/5.6, shutter 1/60sec, ISO 100, 55mm focal length
This image has square blocks which is repetitive. On a standing vantage point i focused the camera straight ahead to capture this.f/10.0, shutter 1/60sec, ISO 800, 50mm focal length
This is an image of a chair we use in class it was taken from the side but i cropped it and rotated it to make it look like this.
f/7.1, shutter 1/60sec, ISO 400, 50mm focal length
This is an image of a keyboard. It was cropped using the crop tool and rotated.
f/7.1, shutter 1/320sec, ISO 100, 50mm focal length
This is an image of with a wider DOP with a negative space within the frame which is the clouds and another building just slightly showing on the right.
f/7.1, shutter 1/640sec, ISO 100, 55mm focal length
This is an image of leading lines as seen here the leading lines are the electrical powerlines directing you the main electrical.
f/7.1, shutter 1/320sec, ISO 100, 55mm focal length
This is an image of leading lines the yellow markings are the leading lines directing you to the green car.
f/7.1, shutter 1/320sec, ISO 100, 55mm focal length
This is a photograph of leading lines im not too sure what this metal object is but the leading line is in clear view the negative space on the left has a little bit of shadow that kind of directs you to an underexposed area.
f/10, shutter 1/60sec, ISO 800, 55mm focal length
This is a photograph of leading lines as seen here the mouse cord is the leading line directing our eyes to the mouse.
SELF DIRECTED TASKS:
The photograph below shows patterns filling the frame the images were shot at home
f/13, shutter 1/80sec, ISO 400, 55mm focal length
Using camera raw i straightened the image, increased exposure, clarity and vibrant to bring out the details on the leaf and decreased the highlight. This was taken from a low vantage point. The patterns shown are the horizontal and verticals lines from the leaf. The circles on the leaf is a disruptive pattern.I used the rule of thirds making sure the horizontal line on the leaf is centred and framed.
f/13 shutter 1/80sec, ISO 400, 55mm focal length
This image was edited in camera i cropped it using the crop tool to balance the image.Using the basic panel i increased the clarity and vibrance to bring out the details. This was taken from a standing vantage point using the rule of thirds i made sure the horizontal line in the centre of the leaf is centred. The patterns on the leaf are the yellow lining and the uneven squares on the leaf.
f/13 shutter 1/60sec, ISO 400, 55mm focal length
This was taken from a straight forward or eye level vantage point. The patterns seen here the vertical lines running across with the rust on it.
f /5.0, shutter 1/200sec, ISO 100, 55mm focal length
The image of the crate was edited in camera i used the cropping tool to crop the sides and to balance the image. This was taken from a high vantage point. As seen here the patterns are the squares.Using a low depth of field to blur out the background.
f/13, shutter 1/80sec, ISO 400, 55mm focal length
This image was shot with a wide depth of field, where the negative space is the green foliage showing on the background focusing on the main subject the flower shown here the patterns are petals and shot from high vantage point and using the rule of thirds i centred the flower i also increased the clarity to bring out the details of the petals.
f/4, shutter 1/80 sec, ISO 800 25mm focal length
This was shot from a high vantage point to capture the shapes of the eggs which also forms patterns.
f/5, shutter 1/200sec, ISO 100, 55mm focal length
This an example of leading lines as seen above the leading are the gaps of the steps leading your eyes to the boots.using the basic panel i increased the contrast, the whites and clarity and decreased the blacks ,I also used the adjustment brush and decreased the exposure to darken the space in-between the gaps.
f/4 shutter 1/60sec, ISO 200, 27mm focal length
This is an image of a rug which i think has leading lines from the colourful horizontal lines as seen here.I took this image on a low vantage point i placed the camera on the rug thats why it is out of focus. In camera raw i increased the exposure slider, the highlights, the whites, clarity, saturation and vibrance slider to bring out the colours i also decreased the blacks.
f/8, shutter 1/400sec, ISO 100, 55mm focal length
The leading line in this photo is the cracked cement forming a horizontal line leading my eyes to the blue ball. This was taken from a low vantage point because the camera was placed on the ground.Using the rule of thirds the line is centred in the frame
f/5, shutter 1/20sec, ISO 800, 30mm focal length
This zipper shows leadings lines.Taken from a low vantage point.I took this from narrow depth of field.
f/8, shutter 1/1000sec, ISO 100, 135mm focal length
This is an example of leading lines the yellow markings and wooden rails on the side of the road almost like a curve directing your eyes to the people standing around taken from an eye level vantage point.I edited the image to show the underexposed and shadow where the people are standing i increased the exposure, contrast, highlights slider.
f/3.5, shutter 1/80sec, ISO 100, 18mm focal length
In this image the leading lines are the fence on the left and the shadow on the the right directing your eyes to the twins.I used camera raw and changed to the HSL/grayscale because i felt that their was too much sunlight on the wall to tone it down to black and white, and on the basic panel i i decreased the exposure, whites and increased the contrast, highlights and shadows.
f/6.3, shutter 1/60sec, ISO 100, 55mm focal length
This was shot in the evening as seen here the shadows of my room curtain which is the leading lines.I placed my husband on the right side of the frame to give depth to the left side of the frame.I took this standing on the bed which is a high vantage point.I forgot to to take a snap of the before and after, using camera i changed to HSL/grayscale i then increased the exposure, highlights, clarity and decreased the shadows.
Below are patterns i created which has been disrupted in some way
f/5, shutter 1/200sec, ISO 200, 55mm focal length
As seen above the ball with the smiley face has disrupted the the square patterns.I used camera to decreased the exposure and increase the clarity.Using the rule of thirds the ball is centred.I used the narrow depth of field tho capture the image.
f/5, shutter 1/200sec, ISO 200, 55mm focal length
I placed weeds in the gaps to create a disruptive pattern.
f/5, shutter 1/200sec, ISO 820, 55mm focal length
Using the same ball i placed it on a different background as shown here it has disrupted the patterns. On the basic panel i decreased the exposure and increased the clarity.Using the rule of thirds the ball is on the top horizontal line.
I had to take an environmental portrait and using the subjects gaze to lead the viewers eye to a secondary subject.
f/5.6, shutter 1/100sec, ISO 800, 135mm focal length
The main subject her name is Lylah it was her 6th birthday her gaze is on her birthday cake she was just about to blow her candles.I increased the exposure, highlights slider and decreased the contrast because the image was under exposed.
f/5.6, shutter 1/80sec, ISO 1250, 47mm focal length
The main subject here is wearing black her gaze is on the cake we were celebrating our churches 5th anniversary and the secondary subjects are the other three all focusing on her.I increased the exposure, contrast and decreased the highlights.
f/4.5, shutter 1/100sec, ISO 100, 90mm focal length
As seen here the secondary object is the red ball with a fast shutter speed of 1/100sec it is out of focus leaving the two subjects in focus. My sons gaze is focused on the red ball while my husband is looking down.Taken with a narrow depth of field the background is out of focus.Using camera raw i increased the exposure and contrast to brightened up the image.
f/4, shutter 1/320sec, ISO 100, 55mm focal length
The secondary subject is the red ball my sons gaze is directing us to it.Taken with a narrow depth of field and using the rule of thirds my son is placed slightly more on the left side of the horizontal lines giving us a an idea of whats going on at the background.
f/5.6, shutter 1/100sec, ISO 100, 75mm focal length
The subjects gaze is on his steel guitar using a narrow depth of field the background is out of focus.I really like this image because it has so many colors from the red bags of onions, hes shoe lace and his speakers have different colors.
Using the evaluative metering mode take a low angle portrait i just the sunday school kids, with sun behind the subject.Keeping the subject in the same place change to spot metering mode.Changing the exposure for the second photograph and compare difference in exposure.
f/10, shutter 1/80sec, ISO 100, 25mm focal length
This was taken from a low vantage point i was kneeling to capture the children.Evaluative metering was used here the camera did a pretty good job in determining the correct exposure.
f/10, shutter 1/80sec, ISO 100, 135mm focal length
I was suppose to change it to spot metering but i forgot sorry Carolyine, if it was taken the Spot Metering only would evaluated the light around my focus point and would have ignored every thing else,i took this on an eye level vantage point i was standing up.On camera raw i increased the exposure and contrast.I wanted to bring out the colors in the childrens outfits.
I had to shoot an architecture inspired by Bernd and Hilla Becher all the images were shot in south auckland. Most of the architectures are from brewers.
f/16, shutter 1/80sec, ISO 100, 23mm focal length
This image was taken from a front on view point.using camera raw on the lens correction tab in profile i enabled lens profile corrections. On the HSL / grayscale i converted it and on the basic panel i increased the contrast, highlights and clarity,i decreased the shadows. This was taken from a wide depth of field so that everything was in focus.I should have cropped the left side of the image to remove the shadows because Bernd and Hilla Becher have no shadows in their having flat lights in their images. That day their was clouds in the sky which i captured which is also a difference with Bernd and Hilla Berchers images.
f/16, shutter 1/100sec, ISO 100, 34mm focal length
This image was taken from a front on view point.Taken with a wide depth of field.I converted it to black and white on the HSL/grayscale.As seen on the after picture in black and white it shows flat light on the clouds. As seen here it is not isolated because we can see trees and trucks in the images.
f/16, shutter 1/80sec, ISO 100, 51mm focal length
This was taken on a front view point of view with a wide depth of field.Converted it to black and white in the HSL/grayscale.This image has flat lights and no clouds in the sky,as seen here the architecture is not isolated because theirs traffic lights showing.
f/16, shutter 1/80sec, ISO 100, 34mm focal length
This was taken from a eye level vantage point. An architecture from mainfeeds clendon.I think this would be the best example of Bernd and Hilla Bechers inspired photograph, taken with a wide depth field.I converted in black and white in the HSL/grayscale.I should have cropped the bottom part because you can see shadows.Taken from a standing vantage point, and the there was no clouds in the sky which shows flat light.
Below i cropped to remove shadows from the images.
