WEEK 4 DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY, CAMERA RAW EXERCISES

CORRECTING LENS DISTORTION,ADDING VIBRANCE,SATURATION AND CLARITY,REMOVING BLEMISHES
This week i learnt how to correct lens distortion, blemish removal, correct white balance, correct the exposure and make the local adjustments knowing what the clippings indicates,Clipping simply means that there is no detail left in that area, as the tonal values have fallen outside the minimum and maximum brightness boundaries, where detail can be represented in the digital image, the use of local adjustments and batch processing and custom vignette.

I used my photographs to edit on camera raw.

We had to choose an image from the rule of thirds folder using bridge to find a wide angle shot using a small focal length value and using the lens distortion panel to remove any lens distortion from the image.

As seen above theres not much differences in the removal of lens distortion, and there is a shadow clipping on Monas jacket in red indictors too much white I should have dragged the Highlights slider to the left until the highlight clipping warning goes away (the red warning areas disappear or the triangle turns black).

This image has a low contrast, the clipping indictors shows on the white area.I decreased the highlight slider to remove the clipping and added vibrance I also increased the exposure to brighten the image.

This is closeup portrait of my friend I used increased the vibrance slider to add colour to the image,as you can see in the before image there is red clipping which indicates too much white so i decreased the whites slider, decreased the highlight and increased the contrast.

This is an image from the server.

this image i used the healing brush to remove blemishes on her face,in the HSL/grayscale panel under the hue i increased the reds, and blues to change the wall behind her to a light green,it also made her lip colour change to pink,in the basic panel i increased the vibrance slider, contrast and clarity to brighten the image.

Using the bridge filter with an image shot at a wide angle with a small focal length value.Using the lens distortion panel to remove any lens distortion from the image,on the manual panel and straightened the image,on the basic panel i increased the exposure, contrast, decreased the highlights and blacks, increased shadows and highlights the image turned out much more exposed and the colors are brought out.

This image has a low contrast so using basic panel i increased the exposure, whites, blacks and clarity and decreased the highlights and vibrance.

This landscape photo was cropped in the lens corrections -->manual A
I decreased the exposure, highlights and whites.

                                            f/8, 1/255sec, ISO 100, 100mm focal length

Using the heal brush i removed blemishes from Monas face.

What I find useful in camera raw

You can edit parts of an image in Camera Raw, increasingly so. Camera Raw is not just for 'global' adjustments. You can apply graduated filters, different ones over different parts, remove blemishes. You can always go and re-edit your images,It is not complicated like photoshop there are so many components and interfaces but with camera raw it is easy to understand through the sliders and it shows whether you have increased or decreased. You can always press Q to compare the  before and after and take snapshots.
