WK 3 Portfolio
This weeks portfolio i planned to visit different second hand shops in south auckland and let my husband model inside the shops but that did not happen so i photographed in my garage. This weeks outfit is a kimono. The traditional garb of the Japanese is revamped in the latest wave of contemporary kimono couture. It is no wonder that kimono means "thing to wear" in Japanese. Often, the kimono denotes a t-shaped, full-length robe with long sleeves worn by men, women and children; however, these fashionable finds use the robe as a jumping point of inspiration for my portfolio. The kimono proves the saying that everything comes back in fashion, since it has been around since the 5th century A.D.Unfortunately luck was not on my side this week i had prebooked the lighting kit for this weeks shoot but i was not able to grab that instead the technician gave me a strobe light but that did not work!!!! i tried every possible way to make that strobe light to work.So instead i used my inbuilt flash for my lighting.
Techniques: i used the built in flash, trying different vantage points, bulb light
materials:kimono, newspaper for the head band, cardboards, other props because i have no idea what they are called.70D,respirator mask
I edited the images in camera raw basically i wanted the models face and outfit to be distinct after visiting the auckland museum and seeing that their light techniques is very important to get clear detail images. The outfit is also to commemorate the bombing at Hiroshima: On May 27, Barack Obama became the first sitting president to visit Hiroshima, where tens of thousands of Japanese people lost their lives when the United States dropped the first atomic bomb in 1945.
the images above as you can see i placed cardboards for the backdrop and on the left side of the frame you can see car tyres i used newspaper to collaborate with my theme as a head piece. The model is placed in the centre of the frame using the flash and a bulb light to capture this.
This was taken from a low vantage point the model was sitted using the same background
Using the same background i made the model hold an electric drill i found in the garage changing his poses and vantage point.
For the image above i placed a red towel behind the model he is looking downwards i cropped the sides using camera raw.For this images unfortunately i didnt make it to the final cut because it ddint really pair with the other images chosen, the image wasnt sharp and the models gaze was onto the camera.I chose two images from this shoot as a token of appreciation to my husband.

Loves it :)

ReplyDeletePay attention to ISO and focus. Where is your focusing point?
Document your plan for your next shoot on your blog. Which photos will you redo? What objects will you use? More research on lighting.
Keep working on tying down your idea. Your work is about using recycled materials to do what? What do you want your viewer to take from these images? Do you want them to know exactly what they are about or do you want to leave some mystery? Is this a portrait series of your husband? Are they staged? Your research images are sometimes very theatrical. Is this the type of feeling you want in your own work?
