Kieran Scott
Auckland,New zealand based photographer. The day Kieran Scott decided to focus on food, in the late 1980s, he arranged some pasta, tomatoes and basil on a table and shot them from overhead. People thought he was mad, but he was just beginning to rewrite the rules of the genre.
His work was soon picked up by premium magazines in Australasia and he started shooting pioneering features of his own design – winemakers dining at home, documentary-style with portraits and action, or a chef cooking on the beach – creating images full of energy and movement.
Sought-after by major international magazines, he loves to shoot people engaged in reality and never tires of shooting food. He would be really happy if he could get to all his jobs on his Vespa.
He uses diptych techniques in some of his images, natural lighting, studio lighting. He has won the 2000 World Cookbook Awards at Perigueux for Savour the Pacific. Twice MPA Photographer of the year and Cathy Pacific NZ travel Photography Winner.

The images below were inspired by Kieran Scott i like how he uses diptych in some of his food photography.I used a black ground and the canon speedlight with the half moon diffuser.
I placed the cupcakes on a black material and took it from a low vantage point with canon speedlite facing away from the cupcakes each frame was shot separately to create the diptych.
How does their work compare to yours? i used different objects and lighting techniques
What ideas are similar? diptych style, black background, used flash, same subject which is food
How does your work differ from theirs? Kierans lighting techniques is different from mine, the background is not showing just focusing on the subject, while my image you can see the background.
I took this from a high vantage point placing the cupcakes neatly together, the flash was focused onto the cupcakes to get more detailing on the cupcakes using the same black background.
How does their work compare to yours? i used the same cupcakes to try and create Kierans second image of the spices
What ideas are similar? the different colours
How does your work differ from theirs? objects,i used the flash while in the spice image Kieran used natural lighting.
i changed the background and objects in the following images, using a cutting board as the background,i placed the salary and eggs inbetween to create this composition, taken from a high vantage point,i used the flash pointing away from the objects.
i re-edited the image above in photoshop to make it more cooler i decreased the saturation and clicked on the auto color preset.
