Week 1 Introduction To Portfolio
Today we started looking at images from other photographers that would relate to my portfolio.During the two weeks break i was brain storming about my content for my portfolio.I was leaning more into fashion, as a young girl my favourite fairytale story was Alice in Wonderland so i was planning to hammer away with that idea and try an inspired Alice in Wonderland fashion shoot, still not a definite plan for my portfolio. On the MIT library i searched for fashion/fantasy as shown below:
My Alice In Wonderland plan came to a dreadful end because i was weighing out the time frame and the whole body of work i had to submit on week 6 and scouting for a female model might be impossible because my family members are all camera shy.So ones again i had to change my plan for my portfolio this would be the third time lol the first time was when i told Carolyn excitingly that i wanted to have a photoshoot about the Rotumans here in NZ.Still focusing on fashion though i thought O' so immensely with every cell in my brain to think of something that would not be an issue to achieve and will not clash with my portfolio and motherly duties.I have finally reflected on something for my portfolio.
THEME: Apocalyptic Plastic Age
What genre does your photography fit into?
Creative,fashion/fantasy
What are the ideas you are trying to portray through your photography?
I have planned to use my husband as my model. For my portfolio i plan to do a conceptual Reused / Recycled Eco-Fashion photoshoot collaborating with recycled goods example second hand clothing, recycling or customising clothing taking second hand clothing and re-fashioning or repairing it so it is given a second life, plastic bags, cardboards, newspaper, old jewellery etc minimising buying anything new and shiny which would be good for my budget and at the same time saving our planet earth.I am visualising a dark quirky look for my colour palette i will using mostly dark colours black, browns greys and possibly red.
Techniques i plan to use:
- using a prism
- natural lighting
- colour gels
- flash
- low key lighting
Equipments i plan to use:
- Tripod
- Wide Angle EF35mm f/2 IS USM lens
- Standard & medium telephoto EF50mm f/1.2 USM lens
- DIY backdrops
- reflectors
How does your background influence your project?
Growing up i have always loved fashion and being creative with whatever i have, creating nothing into something and this project would give me the chance to showcase my creativity.Clothes are our primary form of visual communication, through which we express our sexual orientation, social affiliation, lifestyle, ethnic identity and personal taste. With the conceptual idea behind the photoshoot this will enable me to express my thoughts and personal style.
How would you like your viewers to respond to your work?
To be honest im not sure yet.But i hope when they look at my work they get inspired and want to go back to their homes and starting looking for old clothes/objects and start creating something new keeping in mind we are all responsible for waste, it starts with us and ends with us.
