week 2 portfolio
This weeks photoshoot i altered things around still conserving my theme.I concentrated on the outfit which is second hand clothing i bought on saturday from Save Mart in clendon,i also was digging the vintage look and used props to link with my photoshoot just to give this weeks photoshoot are more old school approach to it.I researched online and found out shocking revelations of the impact of throw away clothing in new zealand. According to the Retailers Association, Kiwis spent more than $3.5 billion in clothing stores in 2012, an 80 per cent jump in spending since 2000 – and that doesn’t take into account the amount we fork out for fashion online.
Ministry for the Environment figures show 100 million kilos of textile waste is thrown into the country’s rubbish dumps yearly. That’s the equivalent of every person in New Zealand chucking about 145 medium-sized men’s T-shirts a year. And aside from turning unwanted clothes into rags, insulation or sending them offshore to become another country’s problem, not much is currently done to give old clothes new value.
But the reality is people need to be able to get rid of clothes somehow. Arguably, the top three options are selling them online taking them into a charity shop; or depositing them into the Child Cancer Foundation clothing bins scattered around the suburbs. In the case of the latter, most people have no idea what happens to their bags of old clothes once they’ve been pushed through the steel flap. For years second-hand clothing retailer SaveMart, which has dozens of industrial-sized op shops nationwide, has collected the clothing from those bins to sort and sell. SaveMart owner Tom Doonan, explains his outlet keeps the best quality clothes to sell and Child Cancer gets a percentage of revenue. The unwanted but still wearable clothing is shipped off to Papua New Guinea and distributed throughout the settlements.
I took the following pictures in my garage around 7pmish i was not able to shoot out doors because my husband worked on saturday and finished slightly late towards the afternoon and the weather was clammy and bitter.
techniques: coloured gels, canon speedlite, half moon,EF20mm f/2.8 USM lens from technicians room, placing objects infront of lens to create a different look somewhat like using a prism,
materials:casette (bought from a vintage shop),vinyl(bought from vintage shop),second hand clothing, Rooster clay figurine i found in the garage, clay mask, Pantyhose, plastic bag,old plastic flowers, beige trucker hat
DURING THE PHOTOSHOOT NO HUMAN OR ANIMAL WAS HARMED!!!!!

Using the same background, portrait shot,i changed the outfit the model is wearing a brown shirt and a light brown suede jacket, hes wearing a cotton on plastic bag over his face i really liked the circular patterns on it with the two solid red dots, the models eyes were closed for this shot, the model is facing the camera almost feeling the whole frame,i like how you can see the plastic bag is fogged up abit due to the models breath.the third image i placed a silver christmas decoration on the lens just because i like to experiment and try different techniques.it almost makes you wish christmas was near hehe.

FINAL IMAGE 3
I chose this image for my portfolio because i liked how the hibiscus is blocking the face the redness and warm tone of the outfit gives it a good match. The subject is placed in the centre of the frame just capturing the two fingers holding the plastic flower.Another element of randomness why i chose this image was the lighting how on the left is more exposed then the right side of the frame i used an orange gel light for this image.I liked how the tones on this image not balanced but has warm tones to it.I was focusing on the flowers so that i can leave a lot of imagination to the viewer.

I really like this images because it is kinda romantic with the red plastic hibiscus, wearing the same outfit, the first one i went really close to capture the flowers you can still see the models shoulders and his two fingers holding the flowers, the flowers were really old and as you look closer you can see cobwebs on it giving it more texture,i used a red color gel but i did not completely cover the flash thats why theirs only colour on the left side of the image. The second image you can see the outfit hes wearing using the same background, still covering his face with the flowers holding it with both hands,he is also wearing a beige trucker hat.

| f/4, shutter 1/40sec, ISO 1000, 20mm focal length |
these two images i changed the background still focusing on the same outfit.i like th evinatge printing on the wallpaper i didnt even shift anything when i took this photo, their were cardboards(relevant to my theme),ply wood and a wooden door frame which i thought would be perfect for the photoshoot,i used red, purple lighting gels and edited in camera raw.The first image the model is facing downwards he was actually about to sneeze when i took this image i like how natural it looks, the second image the model is looking to the left with his hands together because he did not want to look straight into the flash he said it would hurt his eyes, for this images i did not use the half moon obviously so that i can place the gel lights infront of the camera.
The first and third image the model is facing camera i used the half moon to capture this,i like the seriousness the model is expressing through his pose and facial.i edited this in camera. The images below i used the same background but changed it to black and white.
Using the clay rooster the first image i used a purple gel light and the second image the rooster is in more focus, the models face is not seen in the images, the rooster almost look real which is weird.lol
